Agency Endowment Fund for Tioga Point Museum Established at the Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers

David G. Stephens established the Frances Layman Redman Memorial Fund for the Tioga Poinnt Museum at the Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers. The purpose of the fund is to support the general operating expenses of the museum. This fund was established by Mr. David G. Stephens, a native of Sayre, Pennsylvania now residing in Yorktown, PA, in memory of his aunt, Frances Layman Redman and is named after her.

Mrs. Redman was born in 1909 and lived out her childhood on South Main Street, Athens, Pennsylvania. She was the only child of Dr. Frank Peter Layman and Georgiana Jones Layman. Their home was on the banks of the Chemung River just a few doors down the street from the Tioga Point Museum and Spalding Memorial Library.

Frances married Robert B. Redman of Sayre and resided in the Valley, Binghamton, NY and East Orange, NJ, where she taught school for many years. Upon retiring, she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where she died in 2005. She is buried in the Tioga Point Cemetery beside her husband. An artist’s rendering of the Layman home is on display in the Spalding Memorial Library. Grants from this fund will go to support the role and mission of the Tioga Point Museum as described by its governing documents.

CFTT serves Bradford, Sullivan, and Tioga Counties in Pennsylvania and Tioga County in New York State. It is a purely public charity, incorporated as a non-profit, that has been granted 501(c)(3) status by the IRS. The mission of the CFTT is to continuously improve the present and future quality of life in the counties served by the Foundation.

The CFTT establishes endowment funds from contributions of many individual citizens, corporations, other foundations, other charitable organizations and government agencies for philanthropic purposes. As the endowment funds grow, it uses the earnings from these funds to make grants to organizations or projects that serve identified community needs or are designated by the donor.
